I have two questions that I hope someone can answer.  First, were both the longer 1C and shorter 3C rear sight elevators used on M94’s in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s?  Pictures of allegedly original rifles seem to show a mixed use of these elevators.  Second, what is the difference between 22G, 22H, etc rear sights? Help appreciated.  Thanks

The 3C was used immediately following the change from the 44A Carbine rear sight in early 1932 up through the final Pre-WW II (August 1942) carbines were made. The Post-WW II carbines used the longer 1C elevator.

My M64 # 1117360, a 1936 rifle, has the 1-C elevator. Funny, as I rechecked that today. I thought I had made a mistake on my data sheet. Big Larry

Larry,

The Model 64 used the 1C elevator from 1933 – 1958, but the Model 94 (which is what the question was in regards to) used the 3C for the pre-WW II years (1932 – 1942).

Sights-22G-H-1.jpgImage EnlargerThe 22G and 22H sights appear to be the same when viewed from the perspective of the shooter’s eye but when viewed from above they differ slightly in the configuration of the leading edge.

There I go again Bert. making assumptions. Basically, the M64 and M94 are the same rifle, so I ASSUMED, the sights would be the same.

Someone needs to write a book with good pics. The Winchester, Madis, sight book, is full of errors. I have Carbines from 1941-1960 and most of these sights and elevators are the same. I can tell a flat top and a full California Buckhorn, and a 22-E, from the others, but then it gets a little harder to tell the G’s, H’s, and K’s, apart. I think our resident sight expert, Brad, may even have a problem with them.  Big Larry
