Also some questions on that 82A sight, I may change the sight later but I want to try shooting it as is.
This is a Winchester that has had the wood refinished but the barrel wasn’t re-blued. I think it was before the speed lock addition. I think the knobs at the bottom are for windage and the slide is elevation. In my pic at the top on the left there is a rotary knob, what does that do? BTW I only made this thread because I didn’t get any clear answers on YT or other websites.
One more, I read somewhere that for closer distances you don’t need to raise the ladder, but when I tried that I did not see any ‘V’ at the rear. I assume at short distances the slide in the ladder is close to the bottom. Luckily .22 LR ammo is cheap so the learning curve won’t cost much. The serial number was 15XX.
I’ve got pics but the site won’t allow me to post them.

Hi,
Welcome to the WACA Forum. I read your post the day it was posted but your question was referring to a photo which you had not yet posted so I was waiting for it and then lost track of time. The website does allow you to post pictures, you just have to host them on another site (such as Imgur or similar) and link them to your post. Like this –
Regardless of that, the 82A “ladder” sight is windage adjustable by the rear/lower left and right knob and the elevation is adjustable with the upper left knurled knob at the top of the ladder sight.
There is no “V” notch that I am aware of when the ladder is lowered, that is a common feature on military rifles such as the Springfield Model 1903 and is typically a “battle sight” which is zeroed for a specific range with military ball ammo (547 yards/500 meters for the Model 1903 with .30-06). The Winchester Model 52 Target rifle does not have a “battle sight” notch.
If you have more questions please feel free to post them and we will respond in a more timely manner.
