I have to assume this will be an easy answer for most of you model 94 experts out there. I just recently bought my first model 94 on gunbroker. This particular rifle was made in the 1946 time frame from the information I found (SN 1405XXX). The rear leaf sight has a screw hole on the right side looking down the sights (no screw in the hole). What is this screw hole for? Is it original to the rifle? I’ve seen another rifle picture with the screw in this hole. It didn’t seem to serve a purpose. I can try to post a picture if necessary, but my curiosity has led me here to ask the question. Thanks!
G’day and welcome to the forum.
I think this is what you are referring to. That small screw holds the sliding removable sight face. They are often lost or home made.
Here is mine on my 1946 made 94 flat band carbine. Can you post a picture of yours? Does your carbine also have a flat front barrel band?
Bert Hartman is conducting a model 1894/94 study and will find your serial number useful for his survey.

Your Model 94 was manufactured very late in the year 1946, and it should be a Flat-band. As Chris mentioned, the screw hole is original, but it should have a screw in it that holds a sliding piece used for fine tuning the elevation adjustment.
The complete serial number would be appreciated (so that I can enter it in the research survey).

Thank you everyone for the valuable info. So my rifle actually has the little leaf, but the screw is missing Chuck. It must have gotten lost or never made it back on the rifle before being sold. It’s apparently wedged in there pretty well to stay put without the screw. I will post a picture of my sight for you Aussie Chris in another post. My rifle does have the flat band. The serial number is 1405062 for your study Bert. Thanks again everyone. I’ll try to have that picture up tonight if I can figure out how to do it.
