OfflineAnother option is using a Merit adjustable iris disc. Works like a camera lens… Self serving post… I have the 98 eye discs with various size openings, the Merit discs and other eye discs as well. I also have complete original 98A and a 98C sights available plus parts for the 98 bolt peep sights. I’m working with Turnbull’s to have the round slotted windage nut fabricated. Cheers. Ben

OfflineBen, is there anything you don’t have? Wood from the Cross? Dirt from the Grave?
I’m considering a Merit adjustable iris disk for my 52 Sporting’s Lyman 48F. Do they come in different ocular ranges and disk diameters? I would need one with an attachment screw in the standard 7/32″ x 40tpi size. And in a range more suited to hunting than target competition.
Thanks,
Bill

OfflineYou and Abdul. I figured. I’d like to attend the Durant show. Let me check with the War Department for clearance and I will let you know in the next 24.
Are you talking about the one at the Choctaw Casino et al. on Feb 27 through March 1?

Offlineyes… the “New Frontier” show. I haven’t done it before, but thought I’d give it a try since Tulsa & Reno are on the same weekend this spring. I have four tables at Reno and Tulsa is a “fly & buy” show for me… it’s alot more fun, but Reno helps to get rid of stuff. Just know that Abdul’s piece of the cross is very small… mine is big…I bought it from a priest that was there… 🙂
ps… I can send you a couple and let you choose if you like…

OfflineBen, I’ve got a conflict that will keep me from the Durant show.
Instead, i’m going to find my Old Gunsights book – it is in one of 25 bankers boxes where my library is stored until I get the other 4 glass fronted bookcases assembled — in the next couple of days.
I will study up on the Merit line to see which one I need. Then I can just let you know and we can get it done.
Thanks,
Bill
PS the only time I visited the Choctaw facility was to attend a Vince Gill concert several years ago. The event center was smoke free but we made the mistake of having dinner in the casino, where smoking was allowed. I’m a reformed 2 -pack a day addict, quit since 1995, so I’m hardly preachy on the subject. But the atmosphere there made me very sick. My poor wife, a lifelong non-smoker, turned green. We grabbed slices of pizza and fled to fresh air. The hotel may be just fine. But the entire complex is in the middle of nowhere, so McDonalds is not an option.

Actually there are a few recently added “dining” options near the Durant casino. There is no smoking in the building where the show is held, it is separate from the casino. I’m planning on attending at least one day so if I can help with logistics I’m available. Scott puts on a good show and I like the smaller shows. Probably more useful doing that than assembling book cases, my latest project is somewhat south of “rustic” and approaching “redneck”.

OfflineI’m glad to hear there are options. The time we were there, we stayed South of the Red River at a Hampton Inn, which had no restaurant.

They’re chain restaurants (don’t recall which ones) along with the little fast food offerings at a big gas station, IIRC. I’m not a fan of franchise food. No Mom & Pop home cooking opportunities that I saw. If there’s a big show at the casino the room rates at the casino hotel can get pretty silly, glad I can stay and eat dinner at home during this show! There are some other lodging options and the guy that sets up in the food court area of the hall where the show is has pretty good BBQ.

OfflineI’m probably hyper-cautious about restaurant food – particularly served cafeteria style during large gatherings.
I have been seriously food-poisoned 3 times.
Once in downtown Lampasas at a very busy cafe at noon. My wife and daughter were unscathed but after getting back on the road to Kerrville, I was struck down. Barely made it to the motel where we would stay. Lunch was off a steam table — chicken fried steak with cream gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. Fine peach cobbler.
Worse was inflicted on me via steam table in the old town section of Yorkshire. We’d taken the InterCity 125 from London to Inverness, stopping overnight to tour the great Minster. Roast beef and Yorkshire Pud before we got back on the train and the rest of the 700 mile trip was in the blue room, praying for death. The train was named for its average speed enroute and hitting switches and crossovers at over 120 mph while in the little head was bruising. I will always be grateful to a highland landlord who cured me with a waterglass filled half with sherry and half with port.
Lastly, the Perot Museum of Science restaurant got in its licks with roast chicken that was a little rare and cool. 24 hours later and I looked like the Balloon People, with consequences too horrible to mention.
Lampasas was over in a day. Yorkshire left me weak for 5 days.
Perot was the worst. I don’t do cafeteria style anymore. Or eat rare meat.
