New member needing some info. Just purchased a model 70 built in 1950 that is in 80% plus condition overall. I know the rear sight is not original so my question is, where is the best place to purchase an original sight for this gun. The sight on it now is a Lyman sight.
Thanks for any info

Bob-
A 1950 M70 standard grade rifle would have a low comb stock (the MC came along later) and a Win 22G rear right on the barrel. Given that by this time scopes were the norm, it was very common for folks to change out the fixed rear sight for a folding one. Your rifle has a Lyman 16 series sight and is a later replacement.
The easiest place to get a Win 22G is from eBay, as it would not take more than a week or two of searching to find one in good condition. Trick is to know what a real Win 22G looks like (as opposed to the low height Win 22K). I hope my friend Steve Emmert does not mind my posting the Winchester factory blueprint below (this is from his archive). The key difference btw the low height Win 22G (correct for your rifle) and the low height Win 22K is the shape of the moveable “insert”. The height of 22K sights on standard grade and FWT M70s is a long story… Just find one with the right insert…
Best,
Lou
