I recently purchased a marbles tang peep for a Winchester model 61. The sight locked down correctly when it lays down but will not lock in the upright position. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with sight. Thanks

They aren’t supposed to lock–that’s why they were called Marbles “Flexible” tang sights.  Unless you’re talking about one of the new ones, which may be different.

It’s been messed with.  Turn the nut with a crescent wrench until the sight staff is upright.  The base looks too long–the aperture shouldn’t hit the comb when it’s down.

The aperture folds toward the receiver. It locks up in the lay down position

I believe the stem has been reversed.  Like Clarence said, “Messed with”.  This sight is new in the box, I believe it’s correct.  RDB

That was the first thing I noticed about yours–the base looked too long & didn’t fit right at rcvr.  How is yours marked underneath the base?

OOPS!!  The bottom of the base is stamped “W 8”.  The box actually says, “For Winchester, 1903 Automatic”.  I made a mistake.  Embarassed  Sorry!!!  My 61’s have Lyman sights and I didn’t check them.  My BAD. The sight base is not correct for the 61, but I believe function of how it lies down is the correct way it is suppose to function.  If I’m wrong, which is possible, correct me.  I am still teachable, it’s my memory that is lacking.  Confused RDB
