Gents,
This Lyman sight which appears to me to be a Lyman #41 receiver sight has a “W” and an “L” code apart from each other on the back of the flat 3 hole mounting sight what looks to be typical for a Winchester model 1895 flat side to me as a Lyman #41 with the “WR” code would have the scalloped mounting plate to fit the Winchester model 1895 that wasn’t a flat side. I’ve never seen the “W” and “L” code before and was having a hard time seeing it in Stroebel’s sight book. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In order to mount this on a typical model 1895 I would think a shim of some sort or a machined piece matching the radius of the barrel would be needed. I don’t understand the code on it.
Thanks,
Anthony
Brad,
Thank you for that information as I don’t see it anywhere in Nick Strorbel “Old Gunsights” book. That does make sense to me as the receiver side on the Winchester model 1910 is a flat sided receiver that would accept the mounting of this sight. Even in the back under the Winchester section I didn’t see it listed.
My friend will be happy to know now what it’s for as he’ll be looking for the proper Lyman #41 WR coded sight for his model 1895.
Thank You,
Anthony
