Good morning,

While scouring an old Auction listing for Model 1892 rifles I found this rifle and it’s associated peep sight configuration.  Can someone enlighten me as to the name of the sight?  Are these available in other flavors?  This one must be licorice!!  (Click on the small print image)

Do you think it was modified to fit the Winchester or was the back slot made to allow fitting to different tangs/screw spacing?  Not my flavor.

Chuck and others,

Trying to rely on old memory here, but seems to me years ago there were reproductions of the Lyman tang sight being produced and sold (before “Lyman” were once more available).  They had the slot so they would indeed fit different applications.  I am guessing this is one of that sort.

I can’t but it’s obviously new & crude–perhaps one of those once imported by Cape Giraudeau Traders.  The slotted screw-hole idea, of course, goes way back to the Carver tang sight.

Didn’t spare the sandpaper on that “restoration.”

If only they had one in green…I would call it Drippy Mint.

Ah yes!  “Drippy Mint”  My least favorite and ridiculous adjective for describing a rifle.
