Bert,
I don’t have them in hand yet, so don’t know. I must confess – they are a bit of a “pig in a poke”. I bought them both at an online auction. They were in with a bunch of other stuff, some sheath knives, a couple of rear sights, a pocket knife, etc. They looked interesting, and the price was right so I took a chance.
I’m just hoping they are both for Winchester 94/92’s.

The base on the No. 103 looks a little short for the Winchester, but if it has a “DA” application code, it is correct for a Model 92/94.

I forget to mention, the Lyman No. 2A appears to be for a Winchester Single Shot (it will have an “S” code), or a Model 1886 (“N” or “NI” code).
Bert
Well – if that’s the case I struck out on both counts.
I disagree… an “S” coded Lyman No. 2A tang sight is a minimum $400 sight. If it is an “N” or NI” coded sight, it is easily worth $350. The Lyman No. 103 sights run from $450 – $600 depending on the application code. You could easily be sitting on $750 – $1,000 worth of sights.

If the No. 2A has an “S” or “SB” on the underside of the base, I will take it off of your hands at a reasonable price.
Bert
Thank you, Bert. When it arrives all will be revealed, and if it is what you are looking for I promise to give you first right of refusal.

OK – the sights arrived today. The 2A has a small “S” stamped underneath, so Winchester Single Shot. The 103 is marked with a “P”, so Stevens Ideal?
The 2A has the correct spacing for my 94’s and 92’s, so might it work out or will the sight alignment/elevation be all wrong? Same question for the 103, if I were to put it on my Marlin 39 or maybe Winchester 94/22M.

The “S” marked sight hole spacing will fit your 94/92, however, the staff will not be at the right angle.
The 103P has the hole spacing for Stevens… to put it on a Marlin or Winchester you would need to drill holes in your sight or rifles… devaluing them.
I have proper sights for the 94 / 92 and Marlin 39 available for sale. they come with screws.
Best option…. sell the “S” sight to Bert. He will pay a fair price.
Then put the 103 up on ebay for sale…
You will come out money ahead….

Ben, Thanks for the explanation. I did not consider staff angle, so that really helps.
RE: drilling a hole in my Marlin 39 – a couple of thoughts…..
The Marlin in question is kind of a beater cosmetically, but shoots great and has won me a few matches. I’m not sure drilling an extra hole on the tang would affect the value a whole lot, as it is not a collector piece but a “cowboy lever rifle silhouette competition” gun. That crowd might consider it a “value-add”
Also – it only has one hole for the tang screw, so wouldn’t it need to be drilled and tapped for the correct sight, anyway?
In any case, shoot me a PM with a pic of your 39 sight and price, I’d like to take a look. 🙂

Please send me a set of pictures for the “S” coded sight.
