Hi  New member, 1st post, but I’ve enjoyed reading your forums for a while now. I recently purchased an 1899 Winchester 94 sporting rifle serial number 56305 . It has an express 50, 1, 2 rear sight but I’m not familiar with the front sight. It has a screw on each side and I don’t think I saw it listed in this section of the forum. I’m assuming it’s not original and hoping someone here can confirm this and maybe tell me what it is. Let me know if the picture isn’t clear enough

Thank you,

Brian,

What you have there is a Lyman #5 that has the globe broken off. It is a flip type sight. In the position its on your gun just the ivory post. If its flipped they would of been a globe with a thin post.

Ahh yes, looking closely I can see the globes shear marks in the front. Small post is still there, just bent 90 degrees, tight to assembly.

Thank you!

Would anyone no what size the front dovetail is? I think I found a nice replacement which is .470.

All Winchester dovetails are 3/8″ (.375″) if they are original.
