I have recently acquired a 1894 SRC in 30-30 built in 1913. It had been passed down through a family before I bought it and unfortunately someone decided that fully refinishing the family heirloom was a good idea.
The carbine has a marble front sight and folding marble rear sight, both have also been reblued so I’m wondering if there is a way of identifying how old the sights are?
Could the rifle have been bought new with marble sights in 1913?
Unfortunately I am unable to post photo’s on this website.
Cheers,
Owen

Thanks for that, so does that mean it couldn’t of left the factory with the rear sight?
Considering all the different sights made by the company, or Lyman, listed in the catalog, installing a Marble’s is not likely. The two Marble’s front sights I mentioned were novel designs for which there was no factory or Lyman equivalent, & that, I assume is the only reason they were in the catalog at all.
