Just got this rifle and waiting on a letter. The reason I purchased was the condition and the sights. I removed the tang sight and the finish on the tang looked brand new. My guess is they were original or very old. Are they Lyman? Thanks

The front sight is a Beech the rear is probably a Winchester.   Take a close look at the sights and see if they are marked.  Both are great upgrades.  The rear sight is a bit much for a 73 but it looks cool.  73’s are not known for long range precision.

I thought the same thing and being a 32-20 it’s not a long range cartridge. The rear sight it annoying its in your way and you really can’t use it until about 125 maybe 150 yards. If its low the buckhorn sight blocks it. Stupid choice but hope it adds value. Yes, the front is a Beech, I found it in my Winchester Book.

Brian,

The rear sight is a Winchester Graduated Peep sight (early thick-base variant).  The sights on your Model 1873 are worth at least $1,000, and if they letter on the rifle, they add a substantial premium to the value of the rifle.

On the bottom of the tang sight the spring should be stamped 73. If the gun letters with them you hit a home run.
