Does anyone know the variety of RECEIVER sights available on Winchester 1886’s, and WHEN they first became available? I saw a Winchester .45-70 deluxe lightweight rifle with a receiver sight and it looks original to the firearm, but I am not sure??? What varieties and when? This one lacks a name on it so I don’t know what it is. Not the longer ones typical of c. 1900 vintage rifles. Thanks!

Just off the top of my head I would say Lyman No.21 1895, and after. Lyman No. 38, late 1890s and after.
Other, more traditional receiver sights I wouldn’t know exactly without seeing a picture or knowing the model number. Lyman also had another receiver sight (No. 41?) on 1895s and others that looked in between the older style and the newer style showing after 1900-1910 and later. I just don’t know the specific numbers and makes off hand. I’m sure they are in Old Gunsights. You could try searching for an image on Google of the sight you are wondering about. I’m sure someone would know with a picture.
I guess if it’s a 1900 serial number 1886 a picture would help, especially if it’s not a Lyman 21 or 38 ("the longer ones" you mentioned).
