I have an W.A. O’Hara reprint of a March 1891 Winchester catalog. There are two pages of illustrated sights. The "Sporting Rear Sight" pictured has the sliding adjustment and screw. Would anyone know/have an earlier catalog with that sight pictured with the screw adjustment? Just trying to narrow down some research.

Thanks,

Brad

Nick Stroebel’s book "Old Gunsights" places introduction of the adjustable slide and set-screw to 1890. Also, in Vol. IV of the 12 volume set "W.R.A. Co. Catalogs", the catalog dated February 1890 illustrates the Sporting Rear Sight with the slide and screw. As a matter of interest, the catalog dated July 1892 illustrates the Sporting Rear without the slide and screw.

Unfortunately, my set is missing Vol. II and III, so I can’t help with any earlier dating than Feb. 1890.

Brad,

In volume III it shows the Sporting rear with the slider in the Nov 1887 issue as the first appearance. The earlier ones are all solid sights.
