OfflineSeems I have a lot of sight questions lol,
I was going thru and cleaning dads’ guns (lost dad a year ago) and I noticed on the 44 mag 94 that the sight didn’t have a ramp for elevation. Is it missing or do the short carbine’s not have a ramp. Gun is a 1971 44 mag.
Thanks, Mike

OfflineMike, I believe those do have an elevator. Here is a photo of a modern Winchester trapper 44 magnum that was up for sale on GI. As you can see, it has an elevator. The part shouldn’t be too hard to find. In any event, a standard elevator could be altered to serve without too much trouble.

PS Of course, the cooler thing to do would be remove the open rear sight, install a blank, and mount a tang aperture sight or a good micrometer receiver sight with a ghost ring aperture. You can still buy a Lyman 66 brand new. If you want a steel bodied one, eBay is your answer. I can’t remember whether the trappers were drilled and tapped on the left receiver wall or not.
Oh, wait. The real answer is a Skinner sight. If your trapper is d/t for a top scope mount, Skinner makes a neat aperture sight that mounts in those holes. You should check it out.
