Anyone know if you could order the Winchester three leaf rear sight back at the introduction of the 25-35 & 30WCF? I know if there was a tang sight installed the three leaf was preferred & probably purchased later but wondered if dealers would order three leaf if they could….particularly for a 25-35.

Why would you think not–that, or any other catalogued sight?  From the impractical sight combinations that turn up, such as Big Larry’s SS equipped with a sporting rear sight that blocked the use of its target sights, it appears a customer’s choice of sights was not questioned, if it was physically possible to install them.

Fair enough Clarence. I just didn’t recall ever seeing a 25-35 with a three leaf but I’ve only seen a few 25-35’s. As you say, customers choice of sights prob wasn’t questioned.
I assume a sporting rear semi BH was the “standard”.

The earliest Three Leaf I have is on a ’99 vintage 1894, #56873, a 30 WCF 22″ OB shortie. Its got a tang sight as well but none of the sights are mentioned in the letter. I’m sure the 3 leaf is original to the rifle as there are no other indicating elevator marks on the barrel.

Appreciate the reply Gary. I have a DOM 1898 30WCF 1894 takedown 1/2 mag octagon with a Lyman No 2 rear tang & Winchester three leaf. It isn’t mentioned in the letter but they sure as heck look original.

I have a reprinted Feb. 1893 catalog and both the front and rear express sights are pictured on page 38.     Roger
