Hello, thank you for allowing me to ask a question on your forum. My question is this serial# is on the lower part where it should be but there is no # on the upper housing.. There is no signs of any modification. Looks factory. Manufacture date per Serial # shows 1899. So, in the beginning was there no # put on the upper housing? Thank you very much for your time and effort. My dad and uncle bought this shotgun in the late forties for $50 dollars.

Hello Mike,
Is your Model 1897 shotgun a Take Down, or a Solid frame? Only the Take Down variation had the serial number marked in two locations. What is the serial number?
