Ok one more question?? I read somewhere that the 12 ga ones went to 2 3/4″ shells in 1927. Then I have read that the Model 12 actually started production as 2 3/4″. I checked the serial numbers once more on this gun and it is coming up as a 1926. Any ideas?????
Steve,
The Model 1897 and the Model 1912 12-ga guns were all made with a 2-3/4″ chamber from day one of production. For the Model 12, it was in 1926/27 when the 20-ga and the 16-ga guns were changed to the 2-3/4″ chamber length (from 2-1/2″ and 2-9/16″ respectively). The Model 97 16-ga guns did not transition to the 2-3/4″ length until March of 1930.

Nice gun. My opinion hasn’t changed, I’d buy it even though I don’t really want or need another Model 12.
