I love it out that way Bert. I am sure we have some mutual friends. You were in high school with my younger brothers. I chased my wife down to Cali in 1972 and it took a long while to get back to the PNW.
Sturgeon fishing has been hot on the river, we landed three last trip, 2 were 100+ lb. fish. Lost the biggest fish in the darn anchor line. So I am busy this week installing a shiny new GPS controlled trolling motor. Pricey but worth it. My trolling motor cost more than my boat did.

Rick,
Who were your younger brothers and what year did they graduate?
I have many fond memories of Sturgeon fishing on the lower Columbia. We routinely launched our boat at the John Day ramp and fished the area near Tongue Point.
I take it that you are now in the Astoria area on a permanent basis? If that is correct, we could meet up on my next trip to Astoria.

Bert,
My younger brothers Phil graduated in 75 or 76 and David 79 or 80. I’ll PM you my cell number. I’m in Astoria 4 days a week most weeks working on the house. We shoot trap Sun AM out at BKS, I get there every now and again. Great group of guys there. The last two trips we fished Desdemona flats and it was EPIC. Well except loosing the biggest fish of my life in the anchor line.. No more anchor line, I spent good shotgun money on a Garmin GPS motor they are amazing. Fishing that lower river is a full time job for the guy running the boat, the motor will make my life a little easier. Doing a few upgrades on the old Starcraft, my 1966 boat probably cost less new than the motor I just bought for it. Everything but the hull is much newer. Buoy 10 on the first, gotta be ready.
A funny strange thing. We are all in our 60’s now and have fished that river since we were kids. Back in the day we would catch lots of small Sturgeon on Desdemona flats. Those darn fish? They grew up! The smallest fish our last two trips was about 4 feet and 40 lbs. Those regulations we all complained about have produced an awesome fishery.
