I have an opportunity to pick up a Win 101 Diamond Grade in the case with 4 barrels. So I have a few questions. What are you thoughts on pricing and what would you pay? What can be said about a model with serial 539XXX. Pre -63?

Here are details:
Winchester Diamond Grade 4-barrel Skeet set with original Diamond Grade hard case. Model 101 with 4 28” barrels: 12 Gauge, 20 Gauge, 28 Gauge, & 410 Bore factory fixed Skeet chokes. Slight handling marks, a few light dings and scratches. Pad added to stock. Includes original hard case. No papers. SN 539XXX

I think I know the average price these carry but would love to hear from others and what they think.

TIA

We ask that complete serial numbers be posted. That stated, you appear to indicate that the serial number is 6-digits long, which would make it a 1970s production gun, and it should have a “K” prefix. If the serial number is actually just 5-digits long (53900 – 53999), it would be a July 1963 production gun.

I have no comment on the value.

The seller indicates that it was a mistake and their part and the serial is DG539XXX

Don’t ask me why but that was the only part of the serial they wished to share. It is a DG with 6 digits the first three being 539.
I can understand plates on a car but not a firearm.

The serial number you mention does not conform to the known Model 101 serial number format and range. Pre-1969 (before the GCA of 1968 was enacted) have no serial number prefix. The guns manufactured in late 1968 (and later) have a “K” or “PK” prefix. I did find reference to new production Model 101 shotguns that have a “DG” suffix… e.g. 53900DG.
