I just got a really nice model 50, full choke, simmons vent rib, 12 gauge.  The serial number, 1968xx is past the end record Ive seen, but I assume it is a 1961 (so happens my other two I/c’s, one a lightweight.  Theres a small “DW” looking stamp right under the serial number.  Any chance this was a special order gun?

Based on the serial number, I would assume that it was an early 1962 parts clean-up gun. The “DW” stamped marking is most likely an inspector’s stamp. If the Vent Rib is marked “Simmons”, it was installed by them after the fact. On the Model 12 shotguns, those with the unmarked Simmons VRs were Winchester factory original. That stated, by the year 1961, Winchester was back to using their own Vent ribs.
