Didn’t do my homework but bought it mostly for a shooter. Found a beautiful piece of wood with a nice enough shotgun fastened to it. I thought it was a pre-64 but apparently it’s made ca. 1977. SN Y2025805. Nice trap gun with vent rib, jeweled bolt and loading gate. Other than a replacement recoil pad it’s a 90% or better gun. Fits me very well, think I’ll see if it will break birds tomorrow. Paid a little over half what a pre-64 in this condition would go for so I guess I did OK. Will post pics at a later date.

Anxiously awaiting pics…………![]()
A bit foggy & overcast but will try to take a few pics at the club this morning. Don’t get too excited, my photography skills are waaaay short of yours. 😉

Nice piece, Good score!
It’s not my photography skills that are any good, it’s the camera I bought that has a switch that says “auto” on it. Anybody can take a decent pic with it, it even tells you to raise the flash if needed. They idiot proofed it for people just like me………..
I have a couple of 12’s I will post some pics of tomorrow.

Thanks, my phone takes pretty good pics if I let it. I generally find a way to mess it up, tho. My shooting buddy had a model 12 years ago and today he was kicking himself pretty hard for letting it get away. He even got to shoot her before I did, then he swiped her again for another round! I generally shoot a double but I kind of like shooting a pump, will keep it around for when I’m feeling retro. She shoots as well for me as my 725, I think I’ll keep her….if my buddy doesn’t run off with her, lol.

Very nice Model 12…………
Thanks. Realized last night that if I’d done my homework I probably wouldn’t have bought this gun. It seems to be part of a collection of post-64 Model 12’s. I can’t find anything wrong with the finish, I think my 90% grade was actually low. I’d like to find a red Winchester recoil pad; it needs about another 1/2 or 1/4″ of pull and the correct pad would do that for me. Still can’t get over the way this old gun shoots. I’ve trained with Winchester 1200/1300 riot guns quite a bit over the years so the action was very familiar, this old trap gun felt like I’d been shooting it for years. Some trap shooters I know can pick up any gun on the rack and break 22-24 birds, I can’t. I bought it just to fool around with but now it’s my backup trap gun.I probably wouldn’t take a pre-64 Model 12 to the club regularly, I won’t be afraid to shoot this old gun any time the mood strikes me.
A few pics of my 2 black diamonds. The 16 ga. is circa 1920’s and the 12 ga. is early 60’s (pre 64). The 16 has been restored and very nicely so, I didn’t do the work on this one but give much credit to the person who did. The choke was opened up on the 16 from a full to Imp. Cyl. It’s a pleasure to use in our thick heavy cover for grouse. The 12 Is a different animal, pretty much reserved for bustin clay birds .

Very nice, Erin! Didn’t realize you were a trap shooter, very nice trap gun! What length barrel on your 16?
The 16 ga. has a 26″ tube and the 12 has a 30″.
My trap shooting is very informal………..Strictly done in the back yard mostly before anything with a wing that has a season opens. Even have a yooper version of skeet with one of my barns serving as the “high house” (Actually set up for more realistic duck hunting scenarios)

I’m a member of a nice club practically in my back yard. Two very nice skeet fields as well as two good trap fields. I used to shoot mostly rifle & pistol but since I’m a member there I figured I might as well shoot a shotgun now and then. We have some very good shotgun shooters to learn from as well. I mainly bought this Model 12 for a fun gun to shoot occasionally but I took it to the club today, it will probably go next weekend as well. Brownell’s has the red “Winchester” recoil pads so I’ll get one headed this way soon.

Tried to buy a skeet gun from the same collection yesterday. Gun has quite a bit more wear and wood is not as nice. Muzzle was apparently damaged at one time as the barrel is 25″ and the front end of the ventilated rib is secured with a small Allen screw. Still a good, solid gun but I couldn’t talk myself into it. They have a nice little Model 50 that I probably should have bought but couldn’t get excited about it.

That could get real expensive real fast (skeet) especially when you convince yourself you need all the gauges…………. Model 42 skeet 410, model 12 skeet 28 ga. and so on
Good point, not gonna happen tho. I’m decent skeet shooter but I need all the advantage my 12 ga Citori gives me. My 20 ga 725 Citori is a sweet gun but it’s probably going down the road when my 20ga ammo dump gets under 2 flats. I’m not much of a skeet shooter but I do it and trap for fun.
