I recently acquired my Grandfathers Winchester model 42 410 pump action shotgun. Serial number 7010

Its in pretty good condition (needs cleaning). I have no idea what it is worth. I have seen posts from 200.00 to 2500.00. Id like to sell it and a old 22 long rifle but i have no idea if any of the local gun dealers will give me an honest estimate.

More than likely you get a low estimate (the amount they want to pay you for it). All “dealers” are looking to pay as little as possible so that the profit can be maximized when they resell it to a collector. Your goal is to sell it directly to a collector. For what it is worth, I have never seen a Model 42 in poor enough condition to only be worth $200. Generally speaking, even the “shooter” grade (hard used & well worn) guns will sell for at least $400 – $500. You will need to provide clear detailed pictures of the gun before any of us can provide a more concise value estimate.

Kevin, please don’t sell your Grandfather’s gun.  Like Bert said, these are very collectable guns.  Send pictures to Bert so he can post them.  You might be surprised at the value.  If you really must get rid of it find a relative to take it off your hands.
