Good morning,
just discovered this forum yesterday while trying to do some research on a couple of winchesters i have. After looking around and seeing how much experience there was here i got a membership. Am very new to online forums but would like to get an idea of what a few of my guns are worth mostly for insurance purposes not for sale. I will try and figure out how to post pictures so somebody with experience can give me an idea of condition etc. Looking forward to learning a lot.
Thanks,
Trent
I believe i did, just followed the prompts and believe i bought a membership for a canadian, was $65 bucks, said they would mail out a package, so hopefully i did it right. Not much of a computer guy. My wife is going to try to help me post some pics. I have a model 42 and a couple of model 12 s that i would like some info on. Also an 1873, 1886 and a few others. I never imagined how many different variations there were on some of these old guns. Tough to know what you have without any help.

Welcome to WACA!!!
A little info about posting photos to avoid frustration (for your wife ). It often takes a few days for your membership to get processed and your status changed to “member” on the forum. If it’s not working in a couple days, reach out the Bert or Trish Smith b/c as administrators they can straighten it out for you.
Once it’s “working”… When you are LOGGED IN using your Member ID and password, then directly underneath the window that opens when you click “add topic” or “add reply”, will be a gray button (left side bottom) that says “upload attachments”. Clicking that will open another field labeled “select files”. All you have to do is drag the files from your desktop into that field and click “start upload”. Alternatively, you can use the “add files” button to open the menu that searches your computer and select the file(s) you want that way. Whichever way you select them, once you click “start upload” they should upload and a thumbnail of the image will show in the text box field above.
Like this:
Note that the photo will appear in your post wherever your cursor is in the text field, but you can move the photo around in the text field if you put it in the wrong place. Photos work best if they are in .jpeg format and less than 1 MB.
Good Luck!!!

I still cant get the picture thing figured out. I have a few different rifles and a few shotguns i want to get a little info on. I am not really a collector like you guys i just have a few guns that i picked up here and there without really even knowing what they were. now i want to educate myself a little bit, mostly so i dont get taken advantage of. And i do want to get a 38-55 but one i can use and hunt with, not one i have to baby and keep locked up.
Are most of the members on this site from the states or is there a few canadians on here too?

There are a fair number of WACA members here on the forum that reside in Canada.
In regards to the posting the pictures, have you received your membership number yet?

Haven’t got a number yet, do they email it or send it snail mail?
You will receive a package in the mail.
I went ahead and updated your User ID and profile, so you should be able to post pictures directly to the forums.

Hey guys, just following up. Are those pictures good enough to give an accurate idea of condition?thanks
Trent,
I would call it an 85% gun. It has been used and shows the appropriate wear in the right places. I do not follow & track the values on the Model 42 shotguns these days.

Not an expert on pricing but in the last 3/4 years I haven’t been able to buy one like that for under a thousand dollars.anything under a thousand seems to either be reblued or a little beat up. That being said you can ten of them for sale for 1200.00 but if nobody is buying them is that what they are worth. However it washes out, you have a nice model 42!
Thankyou guys,
wasn’t interested in selling it really, just trying to get a reasonably accurate idea of value mostly for insurance purposes, there is very few for sale in canada that i have found so is kind of hard to judge value. I really don’t have any experience regarding how to judge condition so thanks for that as well
