Hello I’ve just inherited an extremely nice 1897 and I’m wondering if I could get some info on it. It looks to be a nickel plated feed tube. It’s got an adjustable choke, I’ve never seen that before so it’s really intriguing to me.(new to shotguns don’t roast me too bad) serial number is 561687 E can anyone tell me anything about it? Also looks like a possible take down
Hello,
The serial number tells us that it was manufactured in July 1912. The adjustable choke is an aftermarket item, and the magazine tube was originally blued. The majority of the Model 1897 shotguns manufactured after the year 1898 were Take Downs.

Thanks for the reply Bert, would it hold any significant value or would it be a safe gun to shoot and not worry about if I take it out?

Unfortunately No, it does not have any significant value. Only a hands on inspection by a qualified gun smith can tell you if it is safe shoot.
