Hello folks

Yesterday I looked at a Model 1887 shotgun at a collector’s friend and found no model designation on the weapon.

The patent data and the manufacturer are on the lower tang, the Winchester monogram is on the receiver and a WP in oval (old shape) on the back of the barrel. Otherwise there are no markings on the barrel.

Is that correct or was something sanded away?

Stefan,

That is correct.  Winchester did not mark the Model 1887 with the model designation.
