I’m new to Model 12’s and recently acquired a field grade (?) model 12 / 30″ barrel and modified choke. It looks to have been restored at some point and sports I believe newer wood with an incorrect butt plate (?). Serial # 931724 puts it at 1942 ? Matching receiver and barrel. Any insight on this model 12 would be much appreciated.

The actual DOM was September 1941.  I agree that it has been restocked, refinished, and has a non-original butt plate.  It is a good looking gun though.

Nice shotgun. I’ve spent a little time on the trap fields with a vintage Model 12 and it’s easy to see why they ruled the game for many years. Trap guns are often heavily used and trap shooters then and now are picky about fit. It’s not unusual for a trap gun to be upgraded with custom stocks and a worn metal finish reblued. Sometimes happens more than once with some trap shooters. This gun doesn’t look like a trap gun but someone obviously though quite highly of it. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering if anyone knows what’s the correct butt plate for a 41 field grade and would where would be a good place to get a reproduction ?

The current butt plate and screws are the worst thing about the gun and I would not mind at least putting the correct one on.

Thanks, JWH
