- Greetings , I am in need of some help. I have my Dads 1957 Model 12 28 Ga pigeon Grade. I am wanting to know if the recoil pad is correct it says pachmayr and if not I would like to put a period correct one on it. Also how can you tell if cutts compensator has been factor installed? Will post up some pics. Appreciate your insights. Not sure how to post pics but send me your email and I will send that way.

The pictures are a must to answer your questions. Make sure to post a clear picture of the left side of the barrel showing all of the factory markings.

If the Cutts was installed at the factory before shipping, there will be no choke marking on the left side of the barrel. If there is a choke mark on the barrel, it could have been installed after the build by Winchester, but almost impossible to prove without a factory work order copy of the request / installation. Highly unlikely to be original on a pigeon grade gun. Cutts and recoil pad were probably installed by a local gunsmith at the same time. Very popular add on’s at one time. Neither is good for collectability now. Probably a good shooter though.
