A good one . Recently picked up this 1897 12 ga. 30″ full choke gun in rather good shape. It is tight and shoots fine. Smokes targets from station 4 (skeet) The kicker: some one etched what looks like two rifle type grooves in the barrel. 180 degrees apart , about 18″ -20″ long. Not deep enough to be of any danger, especially sine the barrel thikeness is pretty thick. Had to be done on purpose, ” but why ?” any ideas ?

Spiral grooves?

Alright , I’ll give you my thoughts. When we shot it at my gun club (Ft.Worth T&S ) it seemed to have a tight pattern. Maybe set up for a Turkey shoot gun. Will pattern it soon. We elimanated the slug idea, because of it being a 30″ Full (.694) choke, not usually good for slugs.
