ok so , basically an ordinanced flaming bomb and US stamped 97. Riot Not trench . Cyl bore , barrel and receiver US marked . Problem ??? Is from muzzle to the end of threads 21″ . 20″ to the receiver . Cyl bore measures 0.73 at muzzle . Appears rounded off not square muzzle walls . Markings are right as rain IMHO. So …… ideas ?

It looks perfectly normal to me. If it is the barrel length you are questioning, I have seen other WW II era Riot Guns with 21″ barrels. What is the serial number on your Riot Gun ? Barrel date ?

It’s not a post War gun. Likely made very early in WW2.
Can you be a bit more specific with the serial number? 900,xxx is pretty early for a WW2 Military contract 97 riot gun. If you are more specific with the number we can probably date the gun by month and year and even the day of the month that the receiver was serialized if we have the entire number.
As Bert stated, the barrels on these are not always exactly 20″.

Its probably an early 1942 made riot gun. Is the barrel date 1941?
Most of the WW2 Military contract riot guns in that serial number range only have the “US” mark on the receiver. Also, it should have a WB marked stock.
Is the flaming bomb on the barrel an open flame or closed flame mark?

So contrary to a se# lookup I did 927xxx is not post war , ” Cody ” has said se# applied 1941 . Which is completely contrary to any serial number data published ??? Unfortunately no configuration info or shipped to .
Contrary to most… but not all. If you use the serial number look-up tool here on the WACA website, or chapter 8 in The Red Book of Winchester values you will find that they agree with the Polishing Room records at Cody. Serial number 927132 was made in late October 1941, pre War.
