I have a Mod. 12 serial #1072977.  In looking for a barrel date I find the underside of the barrel is stamped, “P   3 9 6   D”  (and the D is on it’s side)  several spaces and a “2”.

No standard barrel date.  Any one have an idea as to what this means?

Thanks,  R

Roger,

The serial number identifies it as a 1946 production receiver. The barrel should have a date, but it could be anything from 1942 – 1946.

Thanks Bert.  Guess I must have purchased another Winchester of questionable origin.

I like it, so I will live with it.  I appreciate your reply.
