As the title says, looking for any information on the Winchester Model 37 TR shotguns. From what I know ,these guns were made at the Winchester/Cooey Plant in Cobourg Ontario,Canada. The guns were much like the Winchester Model 37A except there was more fancy engraving on the receiver and the guns were marked Winchester Model 37 TR.The TR guns were made in all five gauges. There is some speculation ,that they were made in low numbers ,as presentation guns.
Hoping some one may some more information on these interesting guns.
The 37 TR are a version of the Model 37A.No 37A markings on the guns what so ever.Only Model 37 TR.They are a version that no one seems to know much about, although examples do exist. There is speculation that they could have been made as presentation guns. There is not a lot available on the history of the Winchester/Cooey Cobourg,Canada made firearms,so finding information on them, is not usually an easy task. Even finding production numbers on models is not an easy task, for most models.
Just read another version about why Winchester Model 37TR shotguns exist .Seems the guns may have been made for the Thailand market.
Also ,as this version goes,it may have been part of the reason Winchester shut down Winchester Canada and the old Cooey plant in Cobourg ,Ontario.Seems at the time ,the United States government had a trade embargo on Thailand and did not want firearms sold to them. The US government , then put pressure on Winchester to stop selling the Canadian made guns to Thailand.Winchester ,then shut down the Canadian plant.
Do not know if this is true or not,but it does make a good story.
