I just came across this gun that belonged to my deceased husband’s grandfather and I’d like to get some info on the gun and if it is valuable so I can pass it on to my 4-H Super Shooter grandson.

Model 12, 12g
Serial # 301781 Trap
30″ barrel, Winchester Proof Steel
2 3/4″ Full
Stock is ~ 13″ w/ black diamond, beautiful marled wood

I can’t post photos but would be happy to email them to you. The gun is in excellent (always in a case) condition.

Please send the pictures to me at – [email protected]

The serial number indicates that it was manufactured in October 1921.

The fact that it is a family heirloom makes it priceless. Just don’t shoot steel shot, only lead.

Thanks for the heads up. Can you tell me the best lead-alternative shot for this gun? My grandson is only 11 years old and shoots Turkeys and targets.

I hear they make a copper or copper/zink shot.  Never used any of this.  Newer shotguns can use steel.  You need to go to a good sporting goods store in your area and see what others are using.

Is lead prohibited where he’ll be using the shotgun?
