This one appears more authentic, however I’m lead to believe if it is as issued the price would be quite a bit more?

What are the pitfalls?

Damaged receiver would turn me off. Especially at that price. Gun appears to be original, but as a collector, I cannot get over the damage to the receiver. I don’t know why it is, but there is usually something wrong with these US shotguns.   Big Larry

Hi Darrin. Back in the day, US shotguns were available and relatively cheap. Still, lots were pieces and parts. Chances today of finding a 100% US Shotgun are very low. That $9000 bid on that M97 is just short of ridiculous. Collecting 100% guns is an art. There are very few 100% guns around, as the collectors will not sell at any price. I prize my M97 Trenchgun, and although I no longer collect US militaria, I will keep it and pass it on to my Grandson. Beware of put togethers and parts guns. Take your time, and seek advice from those who have been there and done that.  Big Larry
