Hello, I’m hoping someone could give me the value on my 1954 Winchester 42 410. 3" chamber, full choke and solid rib. The barrel measures 27". I have attached some photos for condition. Thanks in advance.

The barrel length is actually 28-inches. Overall, I would call it a 90% condition gun, and the value is approximately $2400.

Hi Bert,

I have one more question, in the 4th photo down there’s a nub sticking out of the bottom slide. What’s the purpose of it?

Thanks, Brian

Brian,

You will need to be more specific… I have no idea what you are asking about.

Sorry about that. In the 4th photo right in front of the forearm you can see a small (1/4" across) area of metal protruding out of the slide. Is this supposed to be there?

Thanks, Brian

Yes, it is supposed to be there, but I do not know what its purpose is.

I don’t know the technical term, so I just call it a "stop". When you’re taking the gun down, you unscrew the magazine tube and pull it out until the stop hits the retaining ring. Then twist the barrel assembly and remove. I guess it just prevents you from pulling it out too far.

It’s the magazine locking pin.

Push it in so it clears the barrel and use it as a lever to rotate the magazine tube so the pin is on the other side of the barrel. This disengages the interrupted threads of the tube in the action so the tube can be drawn forward and the barrel assembly rotated and removed. Reassemble in reverse order.

When assembled, the pin prevents the magazine tube from rotating and disengaging the interrupted threads.
