I’m looking at a ’97 Navy trench gun, and I know that you have to be careful when buying one, as there are fakes out there. The heat shield assembly looks new, and I’m told it is a replacement. It is attached to the forward “lug” assembly(near the muzzle end), which looks new, also. The shotgun receiver has a large circle on the left side with “USS Intrepid” or something like that. Next to that is “Property of US Navy” Gun has matching serial numbers on receiver and magazine tube assembly. The actual shotgun shows normal wear, and the only thing that “stands out” is the new-looking additions. Oh, it also has a checkered stock on the rear grip. Just wanting opinions as to whether buy or pass, based on the info I’ve provided. Thanks!!
Richard,
Pass! The gun you are looking at is a made up Fake.
The U.S. Navy did not ever mark their small arms with the ship name. Additionally, the U.S. Navy did not order Trench Guns for shipboard use. Instead, Riot/Guard Guns were ordered.

I am looking at one in Broadnax, Va that sounds exactly like the one you saw. Where was yours? Thanks, Jim
