A friend bought an 1897 military riot shotgun. It is missing the spring that attaches to the magazine locking pin. These can be found but how hard is it to replace? I’ve owned a few 97’s but have never worked on one. Numrich lists the part. Magazine locking pin spring.
I believe that the spring fits into a slot in the pin and is held in place by light tension when the pin is reinstalled in its normal position.

I get the idea but is it something I could do? Or should I ship it to you.

Yes, it is something you can easily do. Simply pull the magazine locking pin out of the magazine and slip the new spring into the grooved slot in the pin, then reinsert the locking pin back into the end of the magazine tube. The “L” shaped end of the spring fits into the small hole inside the grooved area in the pin.
