I have a C series 109xxx. I got it recently from my in-laws estate. It spent lasr 5 or so years with a friend and before that decades hanging on hooks in their house. I took it out to see if it fired and it did. Exactly once. But not again so far. I took it to a local smith and he said it was gummed up so he was gonna clean/lube it up but we encountered a couple things. One was the action hook screw stripped so will need drilled out. No problem. I got an original replacement.
My main question has to do with how the magazine band and its screws attach to the barrel. Do the screws really just attach from each side directly to the barrel via drilled out area on the underside of the barrel? The smith was thinking there should be something protruding(a lug) from that spot for the screws but the few pics I’ve found all look like how I described it.  He won’t go on with the work thinking the barrel may be weak now but to me it seems like its the way it was made. I’d like to sort this out before I have to consider selling it for parts. Please advise and show pics if you have them. Or let me know where I can find pics.
Thank you

Is your Model 1897 a Solid frame of a Take Down?  Can you provide pictures of the specific area you are inquiring about?

Hello Bert,

Thanks for replying. It’s a Take Down model. The pic I’m posting is not of mine but from one I found online that represents it well. Where those cut-ins are located is the 6’clock position of the barrel.

Thanks again,

Brandon

So what’s the trick to post a photo? The little icon doesn’t do it.

As a Guest member you have to upload your pictures to a third party host site and then post the URL to them here.  You can also send them directly to me.
