I have an 1897 12 ga Serial #40545. Barrel length is 28 3/8″ long. Cyl bore. Is this correct or cut? The sight is original & looks correctly placed. Made in 1908 according to the blue book of gun values, it is a solid frame. Thanks for any help, Jim.
Jim,
Model 1897 serial number “40545” was manufactured in 1897 versus 1908. If the serial number is 405xxx, it was made in 1908. As mentioned, measure the barrel length from the bolt face to the muzzle face (using a cleaning rod).
