I found an old time Winchester Model 71 video, that I thought was nice to share, but I wasn’t able to upload the you tube URL!

Go to You Tube, and punch in;  Moose Hunt Parmalee 1940!  Pretty neat! EnjoySmile

Enjoyed the video, makes me appreciate the old guns and the hobby. These old guns are still working and  I  still shoot them. T/R

Canadian Moose Hunt | Johnson Farms (lowerbalsamlake.com)

Thanks Erin! That’s it for sure.

I think For a lot of us who still like to hunt, it takes us back, and reminds us a little of yesteryear, and shows a little how much hunting, and life in general has progressed!

By the time I really got into Hunting some 40 yrs ago, the old gear and clothing, was still around, but it was changing then, and moving towards a more modern era of hunting. But thankfully, some things, like Winchester Rifles,(even though we see changes there), can still be found!Smile

In 1989 I picked up a deluxe 71 from the estate of a bush pilot doctor that took his 71 with him all over the state. The next spring I took a 9 1/2′ brown bear with it, and then a bull moose that fall. I have since sold it to someone else to make memories with it, but still have dies and several hundred bullets, plus loaded ammo.

Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.

Love that old movie and I have little doubt that 71 will still get it done today. I don’t know how three hunters could get by with one trailer full of gear these days, tho. I quit hauling tents, flys, firewood and cots years ago but coolers for camp food and hauling meat out take up a fair bit of room. I’ll also want to pack along at least one vintage Winchester, a modern “Winchester”, a “bad weather gun”, a shotgun for birds and another for “social equipment”. I can generally find room for a few hundred pounds of corn but I honestly don’t want to go back to the days of “pack it in” camping or hunting. I can live out of a backpack for a week or more but I’ve gotten soft lately. I even haul along a “jump box” to keep i-phones and i-Pads charged.

Nice how the rifle has no recoil! And the man shoots the moose with the muzzle practically next to the guides ear.

Yes, the .348 is known for its lack of recoil, LOL!

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video over the years, but it’s been a lot!

It brings back memories of being a young boy with a stronger imagination – visions of virgin forest exploration and far away hunting adventures (with a model 71 of course).
Now that I’m older and my imagination has been replaced with reality, the forests aren’t so far away or virgin, but the 71 in my hands is a reality and despite looks from younger generations of hunters, I still wear the “old style” clothes. Why change what already works ?

Thanks for posting, it had been a while.

That Jack Cowley character is my wife’s great grandfather.  I visited his grandson just the other day and he had a picture of his grandfather with a partridge in his hands.
