Hello guys,
While working on my research survey of the Model 1892 rifles I have come across a rifle with the WRACO stamp over the top of an illegible serial number. The owner pulled the butt stock off of the rifle and found that there was a “serial number” stamped on the side of the lower tang. He checked the Cody records and the ledger information matched the configuration of the rifle. It is also interesting that the original serial number on the bottom of the receiver could in part still be deciphered once you had the tang stamp. If anybody has one of these marked rifles I would ask that you carefully remove the butt stock and check the tang to see if they are possible stamped. We can then check with Cody (if possible) and see if there is a match.
Why can I still not attach photos in this dang forum??????? There is no Direct Upload Attachments options visible.

Michael,
I had the same problem with posting pictures and they found I had 2 identities in the membership data base when they were merged and it confused the new forum. It took some serious digging to find and fix it. Contact Mike Hager or post the problem in the bug forum.

Yeah this new and improved Forum format will now let us totally rehash all the great material that apparently was left out for some reason!

First off, a thank you to Mike Hager and Georgia Hill for getting my WACA status up to date which should therefore allow me to access the “membership features” on this forum.
And as first try I will attach a few images of the rifle in question and the WRACO stamp on the receiver bottom and the “serial number on the side of the bottom tang. The color alterations of the WRACO stamp were the original owners attempt to clarify the number and the over stamp. I is interesting that it most certainly appears that the original serial number would have been visible before being WRACO-ized. This is in contrast to the commonly stated occurrence where apparently the original number was totally illegible.
