I am trying to find out if this rifle is manufactured for black powder or smokeless powder?

I have conserved the rifle, replaced damaged screws, and have cleaned it. the proof-marks on the bottom of the barrel are a V within a triangle,,
the letters VP in an oval, a broken diamond that appears to be in two parts forming a diamond on its side in line with the other marks. 38-55 is stamped on the top of the barrel, as well as the bottom. Images coming.

Ron,

Model 1894 S/N 161100 was manufactured in late October, 1902.  It was made for black powder and the early low-pressure smokeless powder loads, cast lead bullets.
