Does it have a “W” stamp below the serial number?  It was manufactured in February 1941 during the phase out of the “W” stamp.

Yes it does as I see it now on my notes as I got distracted for the time being. I apologize for that. It’s my understanding Winchester applied that to show a test of their bluing process.

Thanks for the update, and Yes, it was a quality control test stamp.  The highest (latest) serial number I have documented with the “W” stamp is 1267572 (PR date 2/17/1941).  The phaseout of the “W” stamp began very near serial number 1265370.
