The barrel you bought from Numrich is not a factory original part… I recommend sending it back to them for a refund.
What is the serial number on the rifle you bought? During the course of the Model 71 production, Winchester used three different roll stamped markings on the barrels, and if possible, you should try to find the correct one. With the serial number, I can tell you which marking type would be appropriate.

Winchester did not mill a step down in the barrel for either factory length. What you will need to find is a barrel with the Type-1 barrel marking, and a flat uncrowned muzzle (in the white). Anyone can stamp markings on a barrel.
