first time venturing in bolt actions picked up a Winchester model 70 made in 1960 in 338cal. the magazine box was missing are thy all the same? same with the follower. what other calibers use the same magazine and follower?

No, they are not all the same, there are at least 5 different sizes. You need the “Short Magnum” style.
