Foxfire-
If you want to be period correct (which it sounds like you do) then I think you need the Lyman 12S dovetail filler block that is flat across the top, not contoured to the barrel like to current Lyman and Marbles products. They can be found, but sometimes it takes a while to find one that has never had a steel punch used on it. See crummy attached photo of an old M70 Super Grade (sorry, the photo was not taken specifically to show the dovetail blank, but it’s clear enough I think).
As Bert says, removing the 22K rear sight is not that big a deal as long as you use a brass (not steel) punch, drive it out left to right, remove the elevator first, and put something like a piece of cardboard (the classic advice was to use a playing card) between the sight and barrel so the sight doesn’t scratch the barrel on the way out. On a used gun you may end up with visible “elevator tracks” (marks on the barrel from the 4C elevator being slid back and forth), but you can check that beforehand (just remove the elevator and look at the barrel) and let what you find influence your decision to proceed (or not).
Best of luck,
Lou

Thanks Guys!!! Still undecided. I really love the peep sights but what I like best about my rifle is it’s condition and originality. Removing the rear sight may be just too drastic. This may weigh my decision to acquire a less-than-pristine .218 Bee – since that’s next on my inventory of rifles to get. That way I can trick the Bee out without remorse.

I like the way you are thinking. To give you something to think about while you are looking for that next Model 43 rifle, this is what I did with mine;
Standard Rifle, serial number 47042A, 22 Hornet, factory drilled & tapped for mounting a scope. Spent nearly a full year looking for a Redfield 43R to put on the receiver to mount the scope, then I gave up and went with a Picatinny rail that that was specially milled & fitted to the receiver frame rings and factory D&T holes. I mounted a Leupold VX II 2×7 scope in a QD mount and it now sits atop the receiver. I did have to remove the rear sight to get the scope bell the proper clearance. Sighted it for 125-yards, and it is a tack driver with factory Remington 45-gr HP ammo (it does not like the Winchester ammo).

Hi everyone, where will I find a mag for the Winchester mod 43 .22 hornet. I live in South Africa and I have a son working in Wiliston. I can have him purchase in the US for me if I can find one. Thanks
I recommend setting up a search on ebay. One will eventually surface.
