After receiving the new WACA magazine and reading the great article about the model 43’s by Bert, I was looking at some on a couple of internet sites and trying to learn something. Here is one in the link attached that I am not sure is understand. Take a look at picture # 11. It looks like two proof marks on the receiver (?) and the proof mark on the barrel looks to be half covered up, and there is wear marks around the outside of the barrel in that area. What do you suppose happened there? Thanks, Eagle
I only see one proof mark on the frame ring (just behind the forward drilled & tapped scope mount hole). What I do see that is not correct is the partially obliterated proof mark on the barrel. Apparently the barrel has been set back by approximately a half-inch or so. I did not have this rifle in the survey yet, but do now.

I suspect that the barrel has been ‘set back’ one full turn, which would remove about half the barrel proof mark. This would also make the barrel channel oversized, which is not shown in the photos. Also the D&T holes, while in the correct factory locations, look pretty rough to me. To the point that I’m not completely sure they’re still 6-48. Unless you are looking to replace the barrel I’d leave it alone.
