Purchased a Winchester 1894 in .25-35 at my local pawn shop for $400.
Serial Number 863196, made in 1917?
Looks to have been reblued as the finish is more black than blue and to nice for its age, screw heads look to have been damaged, stock is more worn than the finish. The bore looks nice and shiny with strong grooves. Lever and trigger seem smooth and tight.
Wanted to know more about rifle as it is my first winchester. Did I over pay? Where can I find ammo? Is the Marble tang sight period correct? Value? Any insight of the rifle will be highly appreciated. I plan on shooting it and might even take it deer hunting.

Thank You
I didn’t look at the pictures but even if its rusty and run over by a Mack truck, if it shoots its well worth $400.00. Ammo should be fairly easy to find , check your local gun shows. Happy shooting Henry

While you may have done “OK” I am glad you didn’t spend a penny more. The rifle is definitely refinished. In addition, the butt stock is a rifle stock and the gun is mostly a saddle ring carbine configuration. The fore end wood is not original. The magazine is cut down and the forward barrel band is in a weird position. The rear sight is also not original.
