Do you plan on getting a letter on this one?  Should you do so, please post it.
If I was in the market for a Winchester 1886 in .45-70 to use on a hunt, this is what I would purchase.

Yes I have a letter on order so will see, I will still be keeping my eyes out for an ELW and a SRC as I really would like one of each. I’m starting to kind of narrow down my collecting to things I can use yearly, that and ones my kids will be able to get use out of someday!

Well…
They talk about the K economy, K spending, and the same goes for gun collecting as well.  The nice stuff that we can afford falls into the middle of the K, yours is at the lower part of the middle K.  That aspect of the market has crashed in the last year.  Down 25%.  The bottom part of the K is the junk, that always has a market for the downtrodden.  The top part of the K is for the really rich, for the top notch stuff, it will always have a following and will likely outpace inflation.
You are better off rarely buying top notch stuff than buying a few things yearly your kids might use.  And, what’s to say your kids even show an interest in the junk we adore?

Well the problem with what you are saying is it’s all of those things. As someone who just turned 30 this is where the problem lies. The affordability of anything in this range as someone with 3 kids in this economy isn’t very much and the availability of something to be affordable is even less. Then to top it off to even have the knowledge to correctly identify stuff such as this in the wild is becoming even more rare. Heck even the auction house didn’t mention a word of deluxe in the listing. I hear the “I wish my kids were into it” every day because I’ve been the kid that’s been into it for the last 15 years, what I don’t see is many old school collectors that would even take a second to try to show someone young what to look for or some what congratulate someone for even finding something. Not everyone will ever be able to afford the upper K or even the middle K of this community but many younger people I talk to want to learn but don’t even know where to start, or they buy a model 12/94/70 that isn’t worth a dang and get torn up about it and immediately lose interest/fear of messing up again.

As are many of us

😉 Which leads to my next point competition in a world of collectors is a dog eat dog world 😂 which is why I was so glad to win this!

Just a problem that in many ways there isn’t a good answer. Pokemon cards and baseball cards sell for more than a Winchester rifle sometimes, but if you had to put your life on the line for one that’s the true difference in value. As many say even deer hunting is becoming a rich mans sport. Even I remember when if you asked 400-500 for a pre 64 94 carbine in 30 it was a lot. Now look at them on GB going for thousands, it distorts many peoples idea of values as you say the best brings the value. Now your hard pressed to see even a beater priced under 500.

Congrats on this acquisition!
I prefer the shotgun butt and round barrel. Although to top it off I like a half magazine. But that’s the beauty in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you, I have a 92 Semi-Deluxe that is a crescent butt. I also like the feel of the shotgun butt much more. Then again I’m very fond of my model 12s also!
