OnlineI feel Blessed to have a, “Host of Collector Friends”, who recommend different collectables, that I need for my Collection, to enhance enough, to be able to hand down some day to Family members. I always like to remember the phrase, used by Dean Martin, in the Movie “Rio Bravo”, when he used it, “I Have a Host of Friends”, to a full Cast of yesterday’s, acting heroes and so called Stars, that many of us remember.
Mfg. in 1909, this is not an Antique rifle, but a very nice high Condition in a configuration, that I was looking for. With a 26 inch barrel, and the Take Down, (T/D).
This Winchester .22 WCF, Rifle, in the desirable Take Down, configuration, is in very nice all original condition. In photo #6, and more so in #8, we can see the barrel size #1, stamp, and how the strike of the stamp, effects the metal around the stamp, Almost in a, what looks like a bulge form. When pressure is exerted from a stamp strike, the metal hast to absorb the pressure, not only into the metal under the numeral, but it can be seen around the number as well. Pressure exerted inward and outward, as some can understand! Explaining the round like circle example of the strike on the softer barrel metal.

So Anthony, when are you going to shoot it? Hornet brass and some .228″ bullets.
AHHHHHHHH!
Patience gwasshopper Chuck!

I’ll keep you posted! The process of stockpiling those things are in motion, with my advisor in the wings!
I have a few others in front of this one, and the grandson’s take priority over my schedule, as things can sometimes sit on my bench a little bit, before I get back to it. I found myself after them sleeping over for the weekend, and going outside in the Sunny 73 degree weather, as Cleveland, Ohio’s weather, isn’t all that the fake weather, and news people make it out to be!

Here we have and enjoy the 4 seasons, green grass currently and not burnt or brown, with no Hurricanes and very limited chance of a tornado, and the ground doesn’t rumble, or crack as we’re not on any Faults, other than my own!

We have 4 seasons but not the drastic changes you get. It will be in the 90’s tomorrow but not in the morning when I shoot. Earthquakes are far less a problem than hurricanes and tornadoes. I’ve lived in SoCal for 62 years and never had anything fall off a shelf at my house. I live in the flat lands. No major faults where I live. No floods, fires or falling off the side of a hill. I do have to water the lawn and plants. Many years ago I was at work in a 5 story building when a big earthquake happened about a mile away. Several million dollars worth of damage to the building. It was a wild ride.

OnlineThat is a very nice Take Down Single Shot!! It certainly deserves to be taken to the range and shot. I would invest in a Lyman “S” coded No. 2A tang sight.
If you do decide to shoot it, it is relatively simple to get your brass for it in good shooting order. Simply acquire some standard 22 Hornet ammo, take it to the range and shoot it. The accuracy might not be very good, but you will have perfectly formed 22 WCF cases when you extract the empties.
Finding the correct .228 diameter bullets to reload might be your only challenge. The original 22 WCF used a 45-grain bullet, but you can go as heavy as 60-gr without sacrificing accuracy in an excellent bore. Buffalo Arms has the bullet you need – .228″ Diameter 45 Grain Jacketed Bullets Box of 100 (buffaloarms.com)
I have lots of 22 Hornet brass if you just want to start by loading your own.

We used to take the month of February off and vacation in So Cal, Thousand Oaks, N. of L.A., (one hour), and El Toro, S. of L.A.(one hour),where the Marine Corps base my B.I.L. closed down, for many a years while the boys were young, and our family would watch them, and we would take a vacation somewhere or whatever! A lot of golf, was played, and we never chased the balls out of bounds, in the rough, as the rattlesnake signs warned against it! LOL!
We had opportunities to move there but decided against it, for several different reasons. It was always a nice place to visit. Still got family up and down the Coast all over, and we stay in pretty close touch!

Bert,
I’m in agreement with you. Thanks for verifying the configuration for me. I like this one and look foreword to shooting it That’s a great idea on shooting some hornet brass, and forming it!
That’s more good information! I like what you’re suggesting! I would like to take you up on that offer, of brass that you might have available. I’ll PM, you and we can talk turkey! Before you’re BFADM gets a hold of you and starts swooning you again! LOL!

It was 100 degrees yesterday at my house. It only got up to 85 at the range before I left. I had a baby rattlesnake visit me while shooting. He was scooped up and moved to a safer location. Thousand Oaks yesterday was very hot, hotter than my city. When I was in the Army I had my wife go to El Toro and get a Marine sticker on my car. She and her mother would go to the PX and I could get on Camp Pendleton to surf right below Nixon’s house on the cliffs. Anyone with a Marine sticker got preferential parking near the best surf spot.

Chuck,
You’re bringing back some great memories as I had many a visit to that base, with my Late B.I.L., who had 30 years in and mostly at El Toro, as a Civilian and we would take his Muscle cars, from the late 60’s and early 70’s, as he was a Mopar guy, and leave some rubber on that old runway there!
My wife spoke with her sister in the Oaks yesterday, as they do almost daily, and she did say it was pretty Hot.
He used to live nearby in Lake Forest, and would drive his cars in and out of his neighborhood, with a cautious eye, as he seemed to be offered a race daily, every time we would cruise in them! LOL!

OnlineChuck,
We used to meet a ‘Falconer”, at the old base and he would release his Falcon and that thing would go so high and out of sight, that we couldn’t see it anymore with the naked eye, and in that bright sun light, and that thing would come down with tremendous speed and hit a rabbit, that we didn’t even know was there, hiding in the scrub brush! Amazing to see!
When we weren’t doing that we would wack the Coyote’s as they were always on the prowl, looking for an easy meal!
My Late B.I.L. was a W05, in the Corpse as high as an enlisted man could go, so I’m told. Being a Navigator on the C-130, and in the Aerial refueling, he had some pretty amazing stories, that we would listen to, at the officers club, before it closed, years ago! I remember he was instructing at the Air Force/Marine Corps, combined base in San Antonio, Texas, years ago, and a story was told by an old rancher we met, that he had already heard, and wanted me to hear it first hand, about an old, “High Wall”, being used as a fence post, on a Ranch down there! Bet that one isn’t in Bert’s Survey! LOL!
